- В возрасте семи лет Лайдон заболел менингитом спинного мозга; в течение полугода он время от времени впадал в кому, из-за чего утратил большую часть детских воспоминаний. Из-за болезни у него также резко ухудшилось зрение (вследствие чего развилась ставшая впоследствии знаменитой манера «пронзать взглядом») и на всю жизнь остался заметно искривлённым позвоночник.
