In 1945 an SS officer was shot to death by a Jewish woman near the gas chambers in Auschwitz. The shooting was carried out by Francesca Mann, a ballet dancer from Warsaw. This act of heroism received no recognition due to the rumors that Francesca collaborated with the Nazis. Francesca left behind n
