After a somewhat disappointing season, West German Walter Rohrl bounced back to give the Audi team a welcome boost to morale with a devastating victory in the San Remo Rally in Italy. It had been thought Timo Salonen would lead the Peugeot team to another win. However, he was eclipsed by a brilliant
