  • Мама актера была воспитательницей в детском саду, отец - рабочий на ткацкой фабрике.
  • После школы работал токарем на военном заводе.
  • В 1945 году Вячеслав Тихонов пытался поступить во ВГИК, но ему было отказано по причине - «нефотогеничная внешность». Уже после завершения вступительных экзаменов профессор ВГИКа Б.В. Бибиков зачислил Тихонова к себе на курс.
  • Во время учёбы во ВГИКе Вячеслав женился на Нонне Мордюковой (с которой прожил 13 лет).
  • В 1950 году с отличием окончил ВГИК.
  • В 2002 году у актёра случился инфаркт миокарда.
  • 28 ноября 2009 года актёр был госпитализирован в ЦКБ.
  • Лучший актер по опросу журнала «Советский экран» в 1966 году (Война и мир).
  • Народный артист СССР (13.08.1974).
  • Похоронен актёр 8 декабря на Новодевичьем кладбище столицы (участок № 10, ряд № 10, место № 5).
