User Data Deletion

This is a translation of the document. In case of discrepancy, the Russian version prevails: view original

You can delete your kino.is account and the data associated with it yourself and at any time — there is no need to contact support for this. Below is how to do it, exactly what gets deleted and within what time frames.

1. Deleting your account — 1 minute

  1. Sign in to your account and open Settings.
  2. At the bottom of the page find the “Account deletion” section and click “Delete account…”.
  3. Confirm that it is you (see section 2), type the word DELETE and click “Delete permanently”.

The data is deleted immediately, in a single transaction. Cancelling the deletion and restoring the data is impossible.

2. If you do not know your password

This is a common situation: accounts created by signing in through a social network or with a passkey effectively have no password. You can confirm your identity by any method you normally use to sign in:

  • Passkey (Face ID, Touch ID, device key) — a single tap right in the deletion form;
  • Signing in again through a linked service — Facebook, Google, Apple, VK ID, Yandex ID or Telegram;
  • Password — if you have set one.

The confirmation is valid for 10 minutes and is used once.

3. What exactly is deleted

The following is deleted irreversibly:

  • the account itself: email address, phone number, name, encrypted password, profile picture;
  • film ratings, watchlists, “favourite” and “want to watch” marks;
  • reviews and critiques;
  • friends and friend requests — including at those who added you;
  • event and notification subscriptions, including notifications to other people about your activity;
  • favourite cinemas and saved location history;
  • links to external accounts (Facebook, Google, Apple, VK ID, Yandex ID, Telegram);
  • passkeys;
  • the account sign-in log;
  • connections to lists imported from other services.

4. What is not deleted but anonymised

Visit statistics and device information are not deleted row by row, but they stop pointing to you: the link to the account is severed irreversibly. These records are needed as anonymised aggregates (how many visitors from a country, from which type of device), and deleting them would punch holes in the reports without adding any privacy for you — once the link is severed, it is no longer possible to establish that a record related to you.

In any case such records live for a limited time and are deleted automatically:

  • visit events — 90 days, after which only daily totals remain, with no link to the visitor;
  • the IP address inside an event — 30 days, then it is zeroed out;
  • device information — 90 days;
  • location history without an account — 180 days.

5. Deleting only a social network link

If you want to disconnect Facebook, Google, Apple, VK ID, Yandex ID or Telegram but keep your account and your lists — do it in Settings, the “Linked accounts” section, the “Unlink” button. The account and all your data will remain; only the connection with that service is deleted.

You cannot unlink your last sign-in method — otherwise you would lose access to your own account. First add an email address, a passkey or another service.

6. How to revoke access on the service’s side

Deleting your account on kino.is does not revoke the permission you granted within the service itself. That is done in the same place where you granted it:

  • Facebook — Settings → Apps and Websites;
  • Google — Google Account → Third-party apps with account access;
  • Apple — account.apple.com → “Security” → “Sign in with Apple”;
  • VK ID — Settings → Apps;
  • Yandex ID — the account management page, the third-party app access section;
  • Telegram — the Telegram app → “Settings” → “Privacy and Security” → “Devices and apps”.

7. If you removed the app inside the service itself

When you remove kino.is in the Facebook app settings, that service notifies us automatically. Upon such a request we unlink Facebook: we delete the identifier received from it and the link itself, after which signing in via Facebook is not possible.

Your kino.is account, your ratings, lists and reviews we keep — this is your data on our service, not information received from Facebook, and deleting it at the click of a button in a third-party interface would be disproportionate. If you need a complete wipe — do it yourself following the instructions above, in a minute.

In response, the service receives from us a link and a confirmation code: they show exactly what was done. We will separately warn you if Facebook was your only sign-in method.

8. If you have no access to the account

Lost access to your email, to the device with the passkey, or to the social network you used to sign in? Write to [email protected] from the address listed in the account, or describe the account so that we can identify it. We will process the request within a reasonable time, as a rule within 3 business days, and we may request additional information so as not to delete someone else’s data by mistake.

More details about the composition of the data processed and about your rights are in the Privacy Policy.

User Data Deletion (English)

You can delete your kino.is account and all associated data yourself, at any time — no support request needed.

How: sign in, open Settings, scroll to “Delete account” (Account deletion), click the button, confirm your identity and type the confirmation word. Deletion is immediate, runs in a single transaction and cannot be undone.

If you do not know your password (typical for accounts created via Facebook, Google, Apple, VK ID, Yandex ID or Telegram): confirm with a passkey (Face ID / Touch ID) or by signing in again through the connected service. The confirmation is valid for 10 minutes and is single-use.

What is deleted: the account itself (email, phone number, name, password hash, profile picture), ratings, watchlists, reviews, friends and friend requests on both sides, notifications and event subscriptions, saved cinemas and location history, all linked social accounts, passkeys, and the sign-in log.

What is anonymised instead: visit statistics and device records are unlinked from you permanently and kept only as aggregate analytics; they also expire automatically (visit events 90 days, IP within an event 30 days, device records 90 days, location history without an account 180 days).

To unlink a single service without deleting the account, use Settings → “Linked accounts” (Linked accounts) → “Unlink” (Unlink). To revoke the permission on the provider side, use the provider's own settings (Facebook: Settings → Apps and Websites; Google: Account → Third-party apps; Apple: account.apple.com → Sign in with Apple).

If you remove the app inside Facebook, Meta notifies us automatically and we unlink Facebook — the app-scoped identifier and the connection itself are deleted, and signing in via Facebook stops working. Your kino.is account, ratings and lists are kept: that is your own content on our service, not data obtained from Facebook. Use the steps above to delete the account itself. We return a confirmation code and a status URL so you can see exactly what was done.

No access to your account? Email [email protected] from the address on file and we will handle the request, normally within 3 business days.
