Netflix has canceled Sweet Magnolias after five seasons. The decision ends a run that spanned seven years on the streaming service.
JoAnna Garcia Swisher posted a statement on Instagram in response to the news. She described the period as a significant chapter that overlapped with personal losses, including the deaths of both her parents during the early seasons.
The actress highlighted the support she received from the cast and crew throughout production. She also thanked viewers who followed the series set in Serenity, South Carolina.
Separately, Netflix has approved a new series from executive producer and showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson along with Swisher. The project is based on Lauren Edmondson’s novel Ladies of the House and follows three women navigating family and business matters after the unexpected death of a winery owner. Swisher is attached as executive producer and is in consideration to star.
